500X Safety Relief Valve / Pressure Retaining Valve – Pilot-Operated Multi-Function Valve for Overpressure Protection or Upstream Pressure Maintenance

The Coliter® 500X Safety Relief/Pressure Retaining Valve is a versatile, hydraulically self-operated control valve that performs two critical functions in water systems: as a safety relief valve to protect against excessive upstream pressure, or as a pressure retaining (sustaining) valve to maintain minimum required pressure on the inlet side. This dual functionality is achieved through simple reconfiguration of its pilot system and ball valves—without changing the main valve body. In relief mode, the valve opens automatically when inlet pressure exceeds the preset limit, discharging excess flow to prevent equipment damage. In retaining mode, it remains closed if upstream pressure drops below the setpoint, ensuring sufficient pressure for system operation (e.g., preventing pump cavitation or maintaining fire line pressure). The valve operates entirely on line pressure, requiring no external power, and features a robust assembly including a main valve, pilot relief/sustaining valve, needle valve, ball valves, micro filter, and pressure gauges. Constructed from ductile iron or cast steel, rated at PN16 (1.6 MPa), and suitable for media temperatures up to 80°C, it is designed exclusively for clean water applications. Available in sizes from DN20 to DN800 with flanged end connections per GB/T 17241.6. Widely used in municipal water networks, high-rise buildings, fire protection systems, and industrial plants, the 500X delivers intelligent, reliable, and energy-efficient pressure management—enhancing both safety and system stability.

Product Description

500X Pressure Relief/Pressure Sustaining Valve consists of main valve, pilot valve, needle valve, ball valve, micro filter and pressure gauge to form a hydraulic control takeover system. Using hydraulic automatic operation, it can be used as a pressure relief valve and a pressure sustaining valve. When used as a pressure relief valve, it can maintain the pressure of the water supply line below the set safety value and maintain the water supply pressure upstream of the main valve. The working principle is that when the pilot valve is adjusted to the pressure relief state, the water flows to the outlet through the needle valve, the main valve control room, the ball valve A, the pilot valve and the ball valve B, and the main valve is in the open state at this time. When the inlet pressure exceeds the safety value set by the pilot valve, the pressure relief pilot valve will automatically open, and part of the water will be released through the ball valve C to relieve the pipeline pressure. Widely used in high-rise buildings, living areas and other water supply network systems and urban water supply projects.

Faq - Frequent questions

Coliter®’s hydraulic control valves are pilot-operated, multi-function automatic valves designed for intelligent water system management in high-rise buildings, fire protection, and municipal networks. The series includes the 600X electric hydraulic control valve (remote on/off via solenoid), 500X pressure relief/pressure reducing valve, 400X flow control valve, 300X slow-closing check valve, 200X pressure sustaining valve, and the LHS743X low-resistance backflow preventer. All models use system pressure as the driving force—requiring no external power—and feature brass or ductile iron bodies, Y-strainer integration, and precise pilot control for stable operation. Rated at PN16 (1.6 MPa) and suitable for temperatures up to 80°C, they ensure safe, energy-efficient, and code-compliant water distribution with automatic response to demand changes.
